The story of Pear Valley Vineyards is one of many loves.

It began in an unexpected place: Germany during the late 1960s. Owner Tom Maas was serving in the army and stationed in Germany… right in the middle of a beautiful vineyard. It was there that Mr. Maas fell in love with wine and the vineyards that produced them.

Three decades later, the love of wine born in that vineyard came to fruition when he acquired 20 acres in Paso Robles, California to begin a vineyard of his own. That 20 acres is now 113.

In 2008, Mr. Maas and wife and co-owner Kathleen broke ground on the 14,000 square foot winery and 5,000 square foot tasting room that would be the Pear Valley Estate. Proving more than just a love for the wine produced but the land that bore it, the couple has made sustainability a cornerstone of their business. The winery and tasting room were constructed with environmentally safe practices in partnership with PG & E’s “Savings By Design” initiative. Additionally, Pear Valley uses water retention pits, small electric vehicles for worker transport, and a robust solar power system, according to Wine Industry Advisory. Their commitment to the environment earned them the Sustainability in Practice (SIP) Vineyard Certification in 2012.

The vineyard also serves as a scenic wedding location, with a stone-made outdoor altar, European architecture, and the natural beauty of Paso Robles the winery works to preserve.

Pear Valley Vineyards tasting room is open everyday 11 a.m.- 5 p.m.
